<h3>Job Description</h3><div>Job Description<div><p><strong>Job Description:</strong></p><p>Financial Debt Recovery Ltd. is seeking a Litigation Paralegal to become part of our growing legal team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing legal and administrative assistance and overall support to our legal team and Corporate Counsel.</p><p><strong>Location:</strong>40 West Wilmot Street, Richmond Hill, ON L4B 1H8</p><p><strong>Job Type:</strong> Full Time, permanent, on site</p><p><strong>Hours: </strong>Monday - Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm</p><p><strong>Salary: </strong>Competitive with health benefits, commission and bonuses</p><p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p><ul><li>Paralegal License P1 LSO in good standing</li><li>At least one (1) year of previous experience as a paralegal. Preferably within a corporate litigation environment, collection firm or personal injury.</li><li>Legal research skills</li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills</li><li>Deadline and detail-oriented</li><li>Ability to prioritize and multitask.</li></ul><p><strong>Duties and Responsibilities</strong></p><ul><li>Drafting legal documents including claims, notices, motions and pleadings;</li><li>Conducting legal research and interviewing clients and witnesses;</li><li>Providing additional support to Counsel for court hearings, depositions and trials;</li><li>Organizing and maintaining legal files;</li><li>Filing all documents with any applicable court systems;</li><li>Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook;</li><li>Handle incoming calls, mail and messages.</li></ul><p><strong>Preliminary Investigation:</strong></p><ul><li>Obtain all documentation from client concerning the account, including information about the debtor, invoices, contracts, promissory notes, payments, and related correspondence.</li><li>Investigate public records for information about debtor's financial status.</li><li>Draft demand letter to debtor.</li><li>Search for assets</li><li>Skip trace</li></ul><p><strong>Commencement of Formal Action:</strong></p><ul><li>Draft complaint and prepare exhibits in support of complaint.</li><li>Monitor date for response to complaint and, if appropriate, draft motion for default judgment.</li><li>Subject to local rules/authority, appear in court at hearing for claim for plaintiff.</li><li>Subject to local rules/authority, prepare, file and serve documents for examination of debtor; appear in court and conduct examination.</li><li>Draft journal entry, default or otherwise.</li><li>Obtain certified copy of judgment transcript.</li></ul><p><strong>Post-Judgment Activities:</strong></p><ul><li>Draft wage and/or bank garnishment forms;</li><li>Draft writ of execution;</li><li>Negotiate payment arrangements for attorney/client approval;</li><li>Correspond with client informing status of collection;</li><li>Maintain judgment account worksheet to record payments, collection costs, and court costs.</li></ul><p><strong>Benefits:</strong></p><ul><li>Competitive salary, paid training, and a bonus and commission structure</li><li>Incentives and monthly contests: prizes, trips, rewards, employee appreciation and bonuses</li><li>Staff BBQ and Company Events</li><li>Free on-site parking</li><li>Group Benefits (health, life, dental insurance plan)</li><li>Paid time off.</li><li>Ongoing training and career advancement opportunities</li></ul><p><em>NOTE: Financial Debt Recovery is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion within the workplace.
